A$AP Rocky - Goldie (Prod. Hit-Boy)

This has been on repeat in my room for three days. I dunno, something about it just tastes good. Available for download on pitchfork. That screwed voice… mmm.

dr. dre - xxplosive

I think this is one of the best hip-hop songs ever. The beat is contagious.

I’m often poked fun at for liking hip-hop, especially of the dirtier/gangster sort… is it because I’m a relatively well-behaved skinny white boy? Probably.

I think what I like about some grungier hip-hop is in fact its blatant egotism and superficiality. Sometimes I want nothing more than a good beat and some surface-level wordplay… Nevertheless, seeing what was really meant by the words on rap genius is really neat.

Alternately, you can look at it as a business model.

SHUT UP AND PLAY THE HITS

I’ve been a big LCD Soundsystem (and James Murphy) since the moment I heard the first few words of “LCD Soundsystem.” However, my int-tune-ness with the live music scene and interest in the group peaked only after their famous final show. I also missed an opportunity to see James Murphy DJ in Chicago… It makes me want to kick myself. I sketched out a bucket list of sorts this past week and “see/meet/hear James Murphy live” is on there, but it’s doubtful it will ever happen. I need to keep my ear to the ground for any last chance I might have.

Pitchfork has an excellent write-up of LCD Soundsystem’s history through songs here (though it gets wordy and hoity-toity at times).

Regardless, I’ll be seeing this film without a doubt.

For the record: my favorite LCD Soundsystem song is likely ‘45:33’ part 2. Or if that’s too pretentious, maybe ‘Dance Yrself Clean.’ And I think my favorite remix is Tiga’s ‘I Can Change.’

In other news, have I ever told you how much I love this song from Grease? The boy who sang the part of the Angel in our school production is awesome, no less. I’ve been humming this for a few weeks now. No lie.

P.S. thank you, tumblr, for the amazing response to my past two posts! You’re a great help and source of encouragement, but I’ll move on by myself as well.

I know I know, I’m late to the Big Boi party, but really. “She drop it low only for me to pick her up; when she’s liquored up I’m leaving my fingerprints on her butt”

Seriously! Who thinks of that?
